Dear Sydney, I have to tell you that...

I will definitely come back to you.
Every day, I came across a new adventure. You walk to one of the many amazing beaches, meet laid-back people, stroll around the magnificent gardens or take a ferry ride through the great harbor. You showed me that travel is not always pretty, but worth it.

Sydney, ich muss dir etwas sagen. Ich werde wiederkommen.
Jeden Tag startet ein neues Abenteuer. Man geht an den Strand, trifft entspannte Leute, atmet im Park durch oder fährt durch den Hafen. Sydney, du hast mir gezeigt, dass Reisen nicht nur schöne Seiten hat - und trotzdem ist es das wert, denn es gehört zum Reisen dazu.

One of my favorite places are definitely the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney. Lonely Planet says you can spend about two hours there, I wandered around for almost a whole day. There was this great coincidence: I was offered to join the free guided walk and, wow, I enjoyed it so much. We were shown a flower that smelled like cherry pie, were told stories about little babies who lived in the fig trees and saw the sort of tree under which Buddha was searching for enlightenment.
My favorite picture of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge was taken there.

Einer meiner Lieblingsplätze sind die Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney. Laut Lonely Planet kann man dort locker mal zwei Stunden verbringen, ich war fast einen ganzen Tag dar. Durch einen Zufall wurde ich auch noch zu einer kostenlosen Führung durch die Gardens eingeladen. Es war einfach großartig. Dort gibt es Blumen, die nach Kirschkuchen riechen. Außerdem haben wir die Art Baum gesehen, unter der Buddha angeblich auf die Erleuchtung gewartet hat.
Mein Lieblingsbild vom Opera House und der Harbour Bridge wurde auch dort aufgenommen.

One highlight was followed by another the next day. Ross showed me the coastal walk from Bondi Beach to Coogee Beach. Although the weather did not seem to be very nice that day, it turned out to be fine during the walk, a mix of mighty dark clouds and sunshine. The walk was gorgeous. It can highly recommend it to everyone, only the last part to Coogee is a bit steep. Before our walk, we wandered around the market at the Rocks, it’s a beautiful old part of Sydney.

Nachdem ein Highlight hier das andere jagt, durfte ich am nächsten Tag gleich das nächste erleben. Ross ist mit mir den Küstenweg von Bondi Beach nach Coogee Beach gewandert. Zuerst sah das Wetter ganz und gar nicht vielversprechend aus, aber dann wurde es doch noch ein wirklich schöner Tag mit einem Mix aus dunklen Wolken und Sonnenschein. Der Weg an der Küste entlang ist unglaublich schön. Man muss nicht besonders fit dafür sein, nur der letzte Teil ist etwas steiler.

On Sunday, the weather was good enough to do the free guided tour in Sydney. Our tour guide, Danica, was very motivated and bubbly.

Am Sonntag war das Wetter gut genug um die kostenlose Tour durch Sydney mitzumachen. Danica, unsere Stadtführerin, war sehr motiviert und ihre gute Laune wirklich ansteckend!

Well, since Sydney is full of highlights, I had to visit Manly again because rain was pouring down during my first visit. I met up with Jaqueline from Canada at the Ferry Terminal, I got to know her during the free guided tour. Manly is just stunning and I can imagine it must be more than full in summer. We were lucky since the beach was very empty and we could watch some people having their probably first surfing lesson. Manly is full of great walks and I will definitely come back and explore more of it. We had fish and chips by the seaside, I consider it as a must-do!

Nun, in Sydney wird einem so schnell nicht langweilig. Manly stand noch auf meiner Liste, denn es regnete wie aus Eimern, als ich das erste Mal dort war. Ich habe mich mit Jaqueline aus Kanada am Hafen getroffen. Wir haben uns während der kostenlosen Führung kennengelernt. Manly ist einfach nur schön und ich kann mir wirklich vorstellen, wie voll es dort im Sommer sein muss. Zu unserem Glück war der Strand ziemlich leer und wir beobachteten einige Surfer. Nach Manly komme ich definitiv zurück, denn ich habe noch lange nicht alles gesehen. 

Ross had shown me an amazing Asian bakery in Chinatown and on Tuesday, I made the plan to come back and have even more cream puffs. There is also a shop selling nitrogen ice cream, definitely worth the visit. The queue is always pretty long, but the shop looks like a chemistry lab and you won’t get bored there. I had the Queen of Hearts Cheesecake ice cream since it was Alice in Wonderland week. It was also the first really sunny day in Sydney, so I just laid in the sun at Darling Harbour and watched some table tennis players.

Ross hatte mir eine asiatische Bäckerei in Chinatown gezeigt und ich mochte die Cream Puffs dort so gerne, dass ich noch einmal wiedergekommen bin. Es gibt auch einen Eisladen, der Stickstoff verwendet, um das Eis zu kühlen. Es sieht aus wie in einem Chemielabor und obwohl man lange warten muss, lohnt es sich. Mein Herzkönigin-Cheesecake-Eis war so unglaublich süß! Es war außerdem der erste wirklich sonnige Tag in Sydney, deswegen lag ich hauptsächlich in der Sonne und habe das genossen.


Since my ticket for the ferry was still valid, I visited the closed Luna Park and had some fun taking photos of myself in the crazy mirrors. I did not intend to go on a ride so it was perfect that is was empty. A bit spooky though. The entrance of Luna Park is quite well-known, a big face of a clown. Even clowns need to see the dentist from time to time and I was lucky to see him this day!

Mein Ticket für die Fähren war noch immer gültig, also habe ich dem „geschlossenen“ Luna Park einen Besuch abgestattet. Ich wollte dort sowieso nichts fahren und konnte so in Ruhe meine Fotos machen. Auch mit den verzerrenden Spiegeln hatte ich so meinen Spaß. Luna Park ist bekannt für seinen Eingang, ein großes Clownsgesicht. Auch Clowns müssen ab und zu mal zum Zahnarzt, oder der Zahnarzt kommt zu ihnen. Ich hab ihn getroffen.

After Luna Park, I spent some time at Cockatoo Island. It was used as a prison for convicts and only one man managed to escape from there with the help of his wife. Afterwards, it was used to build and engineer ships and today you can wander around, see the old houses and camp there.

Danach bin ich noch mit der Fähre nach Cockatoo Island. Es diente hauptsächlich als eine Art Gefängnis, wurde dann für den Schiffsbau genutzt und heute kann man dort campen und die alten Stätten besuchen.
