Christchurch - my city of ruins

Christchurch has a very sad charm. Two earthquakes in 2010 and 2011 ravaged the once blooming city. Ina and I saw pictures of what the city once used to look like and it is nothing like it used to be before. Artworks throughout the city’s ruins show hope. Hundreds of buildings seem to be abandoned because they are just not safe any longer. We found a shopping mall made out of containers which is a good example of the city’s spirit. Nothing is like it used to be, but the people try to cope with it.

In Christchurch herrscht eine merkwürdige Stimmung. Zwei Erdbeben in 2010 und 2011 haben der Stadt stark zugesetzt und nichts ist wie es einmal war. Dennoch findet man in der ganzen Stadt Kunstwerke an kaputten Häuserfassaden, bunte Verkehrsschäfchen, die Straßen absperren, und viele weitere Kleinigkeiten, die zeigen, dass die Menschen in Christchurch die Hoffnung nicht aufgegeben haben.

The whole city is a one way system... even worse that a lot of streets are closed as well
