Escaping Winter: Concerning Hobbits

Outside of a very unspectacular town in the middle of Waikato, people report having seen hobbits. A long time ago, a location scout flying over New Zealand and looking for some nice movie sets, decided that he had found the perfect big tree and a pond to build Hobbiton there. Peter Jackson chose that place for a reason - obviously he did not want to be interrupted during filming. Without instructions from the iSite, it would have been slightly difficult to find the set.

Man munkelt, dass man in Neuseeland auch tatsächlich Hobbits antreffen kann - wir haben leider keine gesehen, aber ihre kleinen versteckten Häuschen haben wir gefunden. Für mich geht ein Traum wahr, als ich all die bunten runden Türchen sehe. Mit Liebe zum Detail wird in Hobbiton alles angepflanzt und in Schuss gehalten - denn wer weiß, wann Tolkiens Hobbits vielleicht doch nochmal zurückkommen?


Bilbo's place

Just a few facts:

all the trees are apple and plum trees because they have the perfect size for the hobbits, but in the books, there are only plum trees so every fruit and leaf got picked by hand and plums and plum tree leaves were attached by hand
frogs had to be relocated from a pond because they were too loud so the actors could not be heard. Anyway, the frogs decided to come back so they had to employ frog scouts who would catch every frog trying to make its way back to the pond
planes were not allowed to fly over the filming locations
the hobbit holes are empty, all inside filming has been done in Wellington

It was a dream coming true for me and the ginger beer at the end was just perfect.

"Mr Jackson ließ künstliche Bäume anfertigen, um seine Kulissen zu perfektionieren, Frösche umsiedeln, um seine Tonaufnahmen nicht zu ruinieren und den Sonnenaufgang rückwärts abspielen, um den perfekten Sonnenuntergang zu kreieren"

Ein unglaublich schönes Filmset, bei dem man einfach mittendrin ist, und, falls gewünscht, auch auf Hobbitart heiraten kann :)
